Heroes Among Us:
A Musical Tribute
Led by guest conductor Henry Cheng, Heroes Among Us: A Musical Tribute offers a powerful tribute to the spirit of heroism around the world. This concert opens with Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout – a piece commissioned by The Philadelphia Orchestra to honor the sacrifice of frontline workers during COVID. Next is the haunting Grieg Piano Concerto performed by soloist David Fung. Grieg’s only such work, his popular piano concerto is known for its gorgeous themes that will stick with you for days. We close with Beethoven’s symphony No. 7, considered one of his most popular works, known for its exuberant energy, rhythmic vitality, and dance-like character. Praised for his “ravishing and simply gorgeous” performances in The Washington Post, this concert features pianist David Fung, who has been widely recognized for interpretations that are elegant and refined, yet intensely poetic and uncommonly expressive.
