“Heroes Among Us: A Musical Tribute” is a concert that captures the essence of the hero’s journey concept, with a set list specifically curated to honor the heroes among us and within us. Guest conductor and Music Director finalist, Henry Cheng, describes the concert as an experience that “reaffirms the enduring connections that make us resilient, courageous, and—ultimately—heroic together.” The concert opens with Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout, which is a piece commissioned by The Philadelphia Orchestra to honor the sacrifice of frontline workers during COVID, and is followed by Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Cheng will be joined by renowned pianist, David Fung, for this incredible musical experience. This concert is sponsored by Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

About Henry Cheng
Winner of the Antal Dorati and European Union International Conducting Competition, conductor and composer Henry Cheng has been the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Klangkraft Orchester in Duisburg, Germany since 2017. His compositional works include interdisciplinary collaborations, films, commercial art projects, ballets, and operas. He serves with his wife, curator Joanne Kim, as the co-director of the interdisciplinary initiative at The Hamptons Festival of Music, BE@THFM. They are the co-founders of the “Non-Sense Music Project,” a multi-art cross-cultural initiative to explore contemporary dialogue through the arts. His musical education includes masterclasses with Riccardo Muti, Bernard Haitink, Kurt Masur, and Tugan Sokhiev in addition to studies at Eastman School of Music, Georgia State University, Indiana University, and University of Arts, Berlin. About David Fung
Praised in The Washington Post, for his “ravishing and simply gorgeous” performances, pianist David Fung is widely recognized for elegant, refined, yet intensely poetic and uncommonly expressive interpretations. He has captivated audiences at such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and the Louvre. Mr. Fung garnered international attention as laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Brussels and the Arthur Rubinstein Piano International Masters Competition in Tel Aviv, where he was further distinguished by the Chamber Music and Mozart Prizes. He is the first piano graduate of the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles, where he studied with John Perry, and later worked with Peter Frankl, Claude Frank, and Arie Vardi at Yale University and the Hannover Hochschüle. Mr. Fung is a curator at the Chan Center for the Performing Arts in Vancouver and serves on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and the University of British Columbia.
